Severe summer storms warning from Met Office as yellow alert issued for Leicestershire this weekend

A yellow extreme weather warning has been issued for Leicestershire this weekend with the rising heat set to turn to violent storms. The alert comes just hours after the county was added to the first heat-health warning of the year as temperatures are expected to ramp up in the coming days.

The latest move from the Met Office, which was confirmed on Thursday (June 8), applies to the whole of Leicestershire as well as vast swathes of the UK, with a warning that heavy rain and hail could batter the region. The warning is in place for Saturday (June 10), just as the county is expected to see temperatures of around 27C.
